Robert V. Ryan
Robert Victor Ryan works primarily in acrylic paint, exploring the placement of color, shapes, and texture and how they relate when applied to canvas. The paintings shown on this website were created in his art studio in Hell's Kitchen, New York and in his studio in Mill Valley, California. He has recently returned to Mill Valley on a more permanent basis after eleven years in Manhattan. He is currently working in his West Coast studio.
Robert attended Southern Illinois University in the 60s where he was awarded a full scholarship to pursue a Master’s Degree in Art specializing in sculpture. In addition he gained acceptance to the Master’s Program at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University but chose to enter the New Jersey educational system where he taught Art for nine years before moving to San Francisco to open a restaurant. After fifteen years as a successful chef and restauranteur he returned to his passion for painting as a full-time endeavor.
His works are held in private collections in New York, California, New Jersey, Florida, North Carolina and Spain. His most recent show was staged in Atlantic City, New Jersey where he was born and began painting and drawing at an early age. It marked a full circle journey back to the sand and ocean that have inspired him throughout his entire life.
Robert and Maria, his wife of thirty years, are bi-coastal, residing in both Manhattan and Mill Valley where they enjoy amazing views of Mt. Tamalpais and San Francisco. Having access to the electric energy of Manhattan as well the tranquil beauty of Mill Valley, fuels his desire to create art.
